How to price a delivery in Lagos
Distance, weight and how the last mile is handled. What a fair quote looks like on either side of the transaction.
Every delivery quote on Tonnes Africa is built from the same three things: how far the parcel travels, how much it weighs, and how the last mile is handled. Once you know where those three meet, a quote stops feeling like a guess.
Distance
We measure the route from the pickup point to the delivery address, not the straight line between two cities. A short trip that crosses a bridge or a market at rush hour can cost more to run than a longer highway run, and the quote reflects that rather than pretending otherwise.
Weight and volume
A bag of cement and a bag of pillows are the same size on paper and nothing alike in a van. Chargeable weight is whichever is greater: the actual weight, or the space the parcel takes up. Both figures appear on the quote so nobody is surprised at the counter.
How the last mile is handled
- Door delivery — a rider brings it to the address. Priced per trip.
- Pickup station — it travels with a consolidated run and you collect it. The cheapest option and the fastest for many routes.
- White-glove — larger goods handled with care and placed where they belong.
What a fair quote looks like
The price is shown before payment, itemised, and it does not change after the parcel is already in the van. If a partner cannot honour it, the job returns to the pool rather than quietly costing you more.
That is the whole idea: the number you accept is the number you pay.
